Salv reduces your total threat.

I will not use that glyph, just seems too counter productive for my tastes.

That's actually the opposite of what I thought, at the start of a fight and for the 20 secs after it, the dps is more likely to get uncontrolled bursts and get closer to your threat, but in the long run, your sustained tps is well enough to maintain a sufficient gap to ignore the threat loss from HoS. So using it later in a fight seems more appropriate to me

Salv does -2% threat per tick. At the beginning of the fight, say you have 50,000 threat. It's essentially -1,000 TPS. Once you get around 500,000 threat, it's -10,000 TPS. A really geared fury warrior won't be far behind you. At least early on you can blow wings and burst around 5000-6000 TPS for a while. Later on you're going negative.

late in a fight, i think it could be a devestating amount of threat loss, since you are not generating threat as fast as you are losing it.

This is assuming the boss is untauntable and that there are no other plds casting salv on top threat. So far everyone has been complaining about not being able/difficulty to tank Sarth3D fights like druids and DK's in progression. Don't know about you but after the 3rd drake is down I have 1 million+ threat above the top dps. Popping this while other mitigation skills are on CD looks like an easy call. Also consider Patchwerk, If your OT'ing this is great for hatefuls.

What you just described are situations, not every single boss fight. Which is exactly why 99% of the Paladin community agrees that the HoSalv glyph is situationally useful.

Re: Glyph of Hand of Salvation.

For taunt to counteract the threat loss requires a huge risk to the raid. It requires someone to pull aggro off you putting not only that individual at great risk of death but also showering the raid what every frontal attacks they have, and there are a lot of them. There's also the issue of boss repositioning. Not saying it will never have it's uses but it's clunkier than the TBC RD and comes with much greater personal cost.

Re: Glyph of Hand of Salvation.

How does this glyph work with bubblewall? If we pop that and then Salv ourselves, is the incoming damage reduced by 70%? That kind of reduction could definitely have its uses especially if the raid knows ahead of time that your threat is going to dive for a little while.

Just about all damage reduction abilities, talents, spells, and effects stack multiplicatively, which means if you hit bubblewall, you're now taking 50% damage, if you use hand of Salv, with the glyph on yourself, you've reduced it to 40% damage taken.

Re: Glyph of Hand of Salvation.

With the way they are supposedly changing the Glyph System, it woudn't be a bad Idea just to keep a stack of glyphs in your bags to switch out between encounters. I still think this glyph is a step in the right direction, and is at least more useful than the SotR one.

Re: Glyph of Hand of Salvation.

I plan on using it wisely. It's a very good amount of mitigation on a short cool down. I understand the argument against fully, but in most fights I can think of I am riding about 25-30% higher on threat than my DPS. The Crusade spec should give a bit larger of a buffer. As DPS gear up and they pull closer to me on TPS it may or may not become an issue. But as of right now, for progression fights in Ulduar it will be in my main spec.

More than likely I'll be rolling with SoV, HoSalv, Divine Plea as my 3 major glyphs. Being able to cycle cool downs means a lot to me.

Re: Glyph of Hand of Salvation.

This could be a very viable glyph if used in conjunction with hand of reckoning. I'm sure a marco that kicks in as soon as you lose threat to cancel the aura and taunt back whatever your tanking would work extremely well here..

Re: Glyph of Hand of Salvation.

Well, we've now had 4 hours of wipes on XT002 (often wiped under 3% on enrage), so well, admittedly our DPS isn't the highest, yet some people manage 7k dps on that fight. I used HoSalv almost every cooldown and was safely above others. So yeah, i like this glyph, lets see when we progress further into Ulduar as DPS gear up, but so far the glyph is doing good job for me ;)

Re: Glyph of Hand of Salvation.

Blizzard just need to change this salvation glyph. while under effect of Righteous Furry it wont drop your threat... That is what we need to survival on burst damage also.

Re: Glyph of Hand of Salvation.

I've used glyphed HoS many times in ulduar so far. It was useful in countless situations, with some fights being long enough to use it two or three times. There are many instances where I am more than 30 or 40% ahead in threat and I have no fear of losing threat by applying HoS to myself. How far ahead of the DPS do you really need to be?

Until we have Ulduar on farm status I will be using Glyph of HoS, Glyph or Vengeance, and Glyph of Divine Plea.
