2.3 5-man build?.. (to replace Bealor...)

Howdy all,

I just dinged 70, have done some tanking, done some main healing (with cast times being a problem) using the Bealor special build (20/41/0), and now I see that it's creator has declared it dead. Pfft...

So, I'm looking for advice for a build for 5-man end-game, inc Heroics. I likely will never see the inside of a raid instance, and if I do, it would be as a pug OT. I will NOT be planning on MTing any raids.

So, with the 2.3 changes in mind, what should I be looking at for a 5-man tanking build?..

Right now I'm more comfortable AOE tanking, so perhaps my play-style will need to change some too.

I need to vendor some of my healing gear, will keep the few really good pieces. Why?.. it seems to me that hybrids who can tank or heal work best in raids, and not in 5-man. In 5-man content, from my past few runs, it appears that being more pure spec is better.

Can't link right now, but if you want to see my current gear/spec (not that it would matter) check Halabar on Uldaman.

So, what does a 5-man / 70 solo questing / pvp build look like?... (yeah, pvp for the season 1 gear)

A friend of mine who's leveling up a Protection Paladin asked the same question. My biggest concerns leveling up and doing five mans were usually stamina and threat - which reckoning provides quite a bit of (in addition to being absolutely wonderful for aoe grinding, which if you're not running raids, you'll probably be doing quite a bit between instance runs).

This is the build I suggested for him, dropping precision and spell warding for reckoning. Having judgments up sooner is great in five mans, giving you either the option of quicker bursts of threat (judging righteousness), or dropping a utility seal (wisdom, light, justice, etc.) when you need it - 2 seconds can seem like an eternity sometimes.

I can't think of any particular five man bosses where spell damage is an incredibly large concern that swapping a few pieces of resist gear in might be better than two talent points. Precision is a much harder decision, but I think the usefulness of reckoning makes it a stronger decision in the end for this particular situation.

Well, I guess the question is, just when does Reckoning loose it's zing?..

Since I am a baby 70, I'll be doing standard 5-mans for a while still, along with the AOE farming, so, perhaps Reckoning is still worthwhile.

Would it be worthwhile doing this?..

for the slight spell damage mitigation and the speed boost?..

I can see loosing the spell warding for now. Likewise, the +hit from percision probably is not an issue until heroics. (Or maybe not even in heroics?..)

Regardless, it does seem that the combination of Reckoning, Spell Warding, PoJ, Percision and ImpJudj is where the flex in most of the builds will be. Everything else seems pretty set.

Too much good talents, not enough points Sad

I'm still not set for my new build. I mostly do in 5-man.

I'm not ready to give up reckoning. I don't know if 2/5 or 3/5 reckoning would be a nice alternative? Any idea on this one?

I'm actually thinking of dropping Spell Warding, Improved Judgement and going 2/3 precision in order to keep Reckoning... But I will primarily be doing 5-mans... Havent decided on raiding or not yet Smile

Is the build I will most likely be running with, my only issue though is Blessing of Kings. I almost always run with a buddy who is Holy Paladin with Blessing of Kings. If I didn't get that one point.. what do I do with it?

I've been doing a lot of PvP using a spec like Baelor's. I think you're just out of luck if you want to do BGs in 2.3. You can't respec every day for BGs. I don't know your schedule but unless you can play a lot on a couple days then respec'ing will not work well. Your other option is to just do arena and get the S2 mace. It's less time you need to have a PvP spec.

The only talent we *need* for BGs is Spiritual Focus. Having played a paladin in BGs lately, I really think that should be something we get automatically or at least much easier to get. Unfortunately, Blizzard is putting time into making lots of classes and specs viable for PvP and arena but Protection paladin is not one of them.

Good luck getting your mace! Smile

Alternative to running BG's/arena for a weapon? Gather 9 friends and run Zul'Aman!

People morally opposed to raid instances are S.O.L. though, you either have to PvP, or settle for rep rewards.
