You could even easily do tyranids in MMO format, and have advancement be through biological mutations.

Me and some friends got lost in the woods of Arcadia and spent four hours distracting ourselves from the walking by talking out how you'd make the game.
It would work so well its not even funny. Only thing we couldnt figure out was how to make Imperial Guard work as a balanced option. We thought about maybe a squad-based pet sort of control system, with your character being the Commissar or Squad Leader, but that seemed too finicky and difficult to make work. The other idea was give them access to powerful wargear like Plasma Guns or Sniper Rifles to compensate for their weakness, or else let them be able to make use of tanks, but that seemed like it would run into too many situational problems of the Guardsman being useless due to visibility, confined spaces, or general close combat.
We just couldnt justify letting a guardsman, even an officer or a Kasrkin Stormtrooper or Ogryn, be either as durable or as hard-hitting in close combat as a Blood Angel or an Orc or a Genestealer.
How do you not have the Imperial Guard though?

Beyond that problem, everything falls into place very easily. How do you resolve character death and let them respawn? Almost every race has a potential explanation. How do you give accessto increased mobility? Almost every race has some kind of jetbike, wartrak, drop pack, wing mutation, hellboard, land speeder, etc.
How do you allow specialization? Choice between the aspect temples, the castes, the chapters and company within the chapter, the chaos gods, the greenskin klan, the tyranid brood forms, the various cabals, etc.

Not to derail this thread......but thats a game somebody should seriously make.
They will end up very rich.

Honestly the only competitor in my mind for a Warhammer 40k MMO would be a Starcraft MMO.

I'd probably have to play both.

Not entirely...

Blizzard's been paying GW royalties for years because, even with that line removed, it's still a blatant ripoff of the setting concepts. Thank god the lore has developed with almost no connections.

Frankly, the whole green-skinned orc thing is probably enough for most courts to rule against blizzard anyhow.

As for the 40k MMO, the one thing that's got me hoping for a bright future for it is that it's both a top-notch production house, and they've got a ton of experience with the setting, even if it is their first MMO.

In case folks didn't know, that's THQ, makers of Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War. They've yet to screw up the setting, so I hold out hope.

Tzeentch here as well--pure Tz Daemons ftw! Also play an all Tree army! Very Happy

Warhammer is part of what lead me to WoW--wanted to try out the whole MMO thing prior to Warhammer Online release.

Pretty funny how many Warhammer players also play WoW.

Of course my WoW obsession has diminished my Warhammer time to virtually nil. Although I am looking forward to the return of the Balty GT!

Would be funny if some of us knew each other from the Warhammer Forum or Direwolf wouldn't it?

Nidal= Neil Yellen anyone here that I know?

Oh and blog in sig too... Cool
