Indeed, we've done equations upon equations and we're normally the first group of people to admit when there's something we can't do, or something we are not suited to do (well most of us), but the same goes on the flipside.

As Lore points out, we are a very heavy group of theorycrafters, at least the original core of this community, and we tend to sway towards fact more than 'opinion'.
I wrote an extremely long reply to that second article of yours since you had made it pretty clear that it was simply, your opinion.

As with my name sake, all things are to be challenged until they're based solely in fact.

And....you got a death threat?!
I'm collecting those! I have 2 so far myself haha.
Hopefully you shouldn't need to worry too much about them.

I doubt anyone would see you as anything other than welcome here.
Because your presence here at least shows a willingness to bridge, rather than trash.

Lore is right, people here are more likely to cram facts and equations into your head, than try to beat words of regret out of it.

This article got our awesome prot pally benched for a holy paladin on our BT run yesterday. He's a good guy and a great player but I think our RL read the article.

Changing the attitudes we've worked so hard to prove wrong, one guild at a time. Thanks WoWinsider!

Alex,

I cannot determine if you are trying to deceive us or yourself. You cannot say things that are untrue and then dismiss them as your opinion, and frankly if your opinion is really that worthless, then you shouldn't be blogging about it. You flat out said that Tankadins are not viable as progression tanks, and that is incorrect. It's not a matter of opinion; we have loads of progression Tankadins here. There are Tankadins who have progression tanked Illidan.

You could say that in your opinion (which is clearly inferior in terms of experience than, say, our Tankadins who have done Illidan) a Tankadin is less suitable for tanking most bosses than a Warrior, and that would be a statement of opinion.

The problem with your articles is that they serve no purpose other than to annoy people and, most importantly, generate hits. It's not as though you were serving some civic cause in reporting that Warriors are the most popular tanks and that some people don't like Tankadins - you may as well blog about the sky being blue. The name of the game at Exxon is to get oil, and the name of the game at WoWInsider is to get hits. Regrettably, you seem to have decided (and you're not the first at that site) that the easiest way to get hits was to tick a bunch of people off. I consider that a very low form of journalism.

I swear this is the guy I was arguing with in Trade Chat on my server a couple days ago.

Someone was looking for a Druid or Paladin tank for the Prince. Somebody said that they shouldn't use a Paladin on the Prince because a Paladin doesn't have the health to tank the Prince.

I pointed out that, actually, against a fast attacking boss like the Prince, a Paladin is a better tank than a Warrior because a Paladin remains uncrushable while a Warrior does not.

Against a fast boss, it's not a matter of if a Warrior gets crushed but a matter of when. Shield Block has only 4 charges every 10 seconds (yes, I know Improved Shield lasts 6 seconds, but any Warrior tank will refresh it every 5 seconds). On the other hand, Holy Shield has 8 charges or double the number of blocks. A Paladin can get crushed, but it's very unlikely if he's mildly competent.

That person is writing tripe.

I like how Alex comes over here to say "lol sorry if I offended u guyz it was joke okay! haha so funny I promise was joke."

And then? And then we try to have a legit discussion and he runs off.

I just read the article and I'm wondering if he toned it down.

I have to say that most of what he said was true, though he glossed over some other minor advantages paladins have.

Really the biggest problem for protection paladins is that, ironically enough, of the three tanks they are the least hybrid-y. If a protection paladin isn't tanking, they are pretty much worthless. Swapping in healers for tanks simply doesn't happen very much. 1/2 a DPSer (prot warrior) is better than 1/2 a healer in situations you need 1 fewer tank. (And feral druids are even better.)

So really the question you need to ask yourself is do the very real advantages a prot paladin brings on some fights make up for the very real disadvantages a prot paladin brings on other fights. I think either position is readily defensible.

That fact alone I think leads me to conclude that he's 100% correct. Protection paladins are less desired tanks relative to protection warriors (don't want any more than one of these either, but you definitely want one) and feral druids (the only tank class you can take more than 1 of on a 25 man raid and still have near optimal group composition).

That doesn't make protection paladins useless or an anchor on the raid, it just makes them the least desired tank in 25 man content. I find his conclusion to be entirely accurate.
