Post Your Successes!

Re: Post Your Successes!

And this topic has got me trying FFVII again. I started a playthrough a year or so ago and got about 3/4s of the way through disc 1, picked it up again. I think part of the reason I stalled on my first try years and years ago was because there's a bit where you get dumped in the ocean with no clues where you're meant to go next...

Re: Post Your Successes!

The problem with FF7 storyline is that being a very old game and one of the first big RPGs it's still on the... "hard" tuning where you get very little help to realize what you have to do.
I strongly recommend using a walkthrough. Without it it would have taken me ages to finish it. Expecially to pass the part where you have to walk through a swamp with a giant worm chasing you....

Re: Post Your Successes!

Yeah, I've been using a walkthrough. Just got the Tiny Bronco, where you're dumped in the sea with the idea you should go to the Temple of the Ancients but no directions. How did the designers think you were meant to figure out the next step? Just wander around until you finally revisit the Gold Saucer (and find the right place in there)?

That's exactly how I remember my first playthrough  I was somewhat young and my English wasn't all that good yet, so was just wandering around, exploring, finding random things, accidentally progressing through the story every once in a while.

Didn't frustrate me though. As long as the game has me interested enough in the world to explore on my own initiative then it's all good.

Re: Post Your Successes!

I don't remember that being an issue back when I played it on my PS(1) 20 years ago, I think you have gotten hints in conversations etc

I agree. I never had any trouble on the other playthroughs when my English had progressed some more (I must've been like 9 the first time), and generally don't use walkthroughs unless I absolutely have to. Although I realise by not doing so I am missing a fair bit of content. But it just takes away that sense of exploration that I love.

EDIT: I remember being seriously stuck on the puzzle in the old Shinra mansion because I couldn't understand the English in one of the clues (I think it was the piano one, something about ivory and missing tea and ray) but I eventually figured out (through some serious dictionary/encyclopedia work) that old pianos used to have ivory keys, and that the missing tea and ray was references to the missing keys. And that's how I learnt about old pianos! Don't say games aren't educational!

Re: Post Your Successes!

Meanwhile Daggerfall neglected to tell me that, due to not resucing a dude on the other side of the world in time, the game was unwinnable.

How marvelous!

If you mean the part after you learn about chocobos... yeah... I died pretty quick.

Getting back and exacting revenge upon the worm was a good time. Until it used that instagib ability. Don't remember if it ate you or blew you away, but regardless. That happened too. >_>

So I've heard! I'm excited to do some casual dungeoneering and raiding. Game looks way better now than it did 4 years ago.

Well, at least now I have a computer that can handle it >.<

Re: Post Your Successes!

That works when you are in endgame gear, but when you are in blues with everyone dressed in 50+ ilvls higher than you, it gets very boring.

Why not just timewalk then? all your gear gets scaled down, now matter how good or bad, gets scaled down to that level and always the same level? And if you have your legendary weapons, you can whip them out again!

Re: Post Your Successes!

So
3/4 Legendary Pet Battle reward bag pets acquired (still missing the seaborne spore)

Left Shark acquired
Nether Pup acquired
3/3 new DMF pets acquired (who doesn't want a mini hogger pet?)
4/4 wild pets acquired and rare
All the garrison purchasable pets acquired.

Is timewalking available all the time? For some reason I was thinking it was only certain weeks? Can't check at the moment.

Re: Post Your Successes!

Yes, only certain weeks. I think next week is Wrath. And stuff scales down to Wrath, not UP to to. So Thunderfury will be outclassed, but Shadowmourne won't suck.

Dnow, running again the same content i've already farmed for 2+ years but dumbed down to useless doesn't fit my idea of fun.
