Alright, alright, I know it's supposedly unobtainable, but I've got a significant urge to somehow obtain the coveted bug mount and title. Now, if it's not possible, it's not possible, but if there's a way, I'd like to do it.

So, anyone else looked deeply into this? Obviously it's impossible on any realms where the AQ gates have already been open. However, new realms are opened all the time. I've read in several places that "all new realms have the AQ gates open," but at the same time, Cairne-US is a "fairly" new server that was created with the AQ gates closed. They've since been open. What's the deal, then? Was Cairne just a fluke? Is it true that all new servers start with the gates open? Is anyone absolutely sure that at this exact moment, there are no realms with closed AQ gates? At this point, is the only possibility some future new server?

Oh, and is there a web site or forum that tracks this kind of thing? I can't be the only person interested.

I'm pretty sure new realms start with the AQ gates closed. There was a blue post that said as much, but I don't think I can find it.

http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/basics/events/wareffort/servers.html gives you the tracking you want. It seems some servers indeed have closed gates.

There are "new" servers where the gates will be open already due to the majority of the population of the server being transfers. There are also "fresh" servers where the gates will be closed.

The way to obtain the title is as follows:

1. do all of the gate opening quests up to where you bang the gong.
2. transfer your character to a "fresh" server where the gates are closed.
3. wait the required 6 months for the war effort to automatically complete.
4. bang the gong withing 5 days of the completion of the war effort.
5. profit

and there aren't even any ??? in the middle there.

The trick is to be motivated enough to actively wait for a month on some backwater server for your transfer to be up.

No, it is not possible.

If you read the WoWWiki article which you linked for Cairne-US, you would notice that it was a 6 month period before the realm was available for transfer after it went online. This is the case with all new realms where the AQ gates are closed, and has been that way since the inception of paid character transfers.

After the paid transfers were first introduced, there were also many blue posts explaining that AQ was the very reason for the cooldown. Nowadays this is not talked about much anymore, but here is a random blue post that Google returned which is recent enough to still on the forums.

Well, you could still do RAF on the new server with a few friends and farm the AQ stuff stupidly easily. You'd get 80 in under a week, and the quest chain done in under a week.

The gates aren't open yet on Borean Tundra, the newest US realm, and there was a very long thread on the realm forums talking about how to get the mount for as many people as possible who wanted it.

I'm also on the Scepter questline(Currently killing Silithid for their carapaces to get to Neutral with Brood). I'm doing it for the faction rep, and also because I'm a completionist achievement whore.

3.0 brought about the Scourge Invasion 2.0, and somehow during that process on our server the Gong was reset, and Ahn Qiraji crystals were all showing up all over Azeroth. We had several people on server who got their Scarab Lord titles shortly before Wrath launched. I will have my scepter ready for that just in case, but I'm not going to transfer servers for the title and the mount. I couldn't give up 6 months of not raiding.

I wish they'd just give the damn mount at the end of the quest already. What with doing away with exclusivity of other content, why not this, too?
