Theorycraft: Intrepid Strike

What do you think of the following (AS would be moved to something like WE which would be moved elsewhere):

Intrepid Strike
Requires 40 points in Protection Talents
Grants the paladin unyielding courage, becoming immune to fear and incapacitate effects for 5 sec.

Notes:
* Can be used while incapacitated or feared
* 40 deep in prot prevents abuse by dps/hps
* 30 second cooldown (starting at cast)
* Instant cast
* About a 100 mana cost to ensure mana management
* Deals 100% of your weapon damage as holy damage.
* Renews judgements, similar to crusader strike
* Similar hit mechanics as crusader strike, so fears which cause target loss would require a macro probably if possible
* 5 yard range
* Requires you to be yielding a melee weapon
* Is a spell. You cannot use it while silenced.
* Triggers global cooldown

Dictionary.com: resolutely fearless; dauntless: an intrepid explorer. brave, courageous, bold.unshaken, undaunted. invulnerable to fear or intimidation.

No

We don't need more strikes everywhere, especially not ones with additional CC related baggage.

Also how would this even work logistically? Even if you could use it while Incapacitated/Feared to break those effects, you can't move/control movement while Incapacitated/Feared so you wouldn't necessarily have the range/LoS to hit someone with it, making it fairly worthless. It would have to be used anticipatorily.

Since it's a strike... can you use it while silenced?

It is a spell. You could not use it while silenced, only incapacitated/feared

Couldn't use it while disarmed, either.

Honestly, I can't see why everyone is so strung up over fear.

Speccing prot is speccing for PVE. Period. End of story. End game reached.

In TBC there is (countem) 2 bosses that fear that I'm aware of. Nightbane and High King Maulgar. So? NB fears on a regular schedule. Fear war, tremor totem, bubble, whatever. Tank his ass down. So? HKM hits so godamn hard even the warriors don't stance dance it. They use fear ward, or one of the other tanks to taunt the bastard and bring him back to the MT.

Fear is basically a PVE issue and in my humble opinion, the tanking community places too much weight fretting over it. So what? have a warrior tank the damn thing or hug a dwarf or space goat. For you BE guys.. well Pfft Smile

My warrior buddy tanks fear stuff just fine, and I can sleep okay at night knowing that my guild gets purples.

Plus I don't see this as Theory Craft, since this ability does not exist I can't exactly put this theory into practice...

Archimonde on Hyjal.

Our best Horde guild on my realm is right now farming PvP trinkets for his fear, every 30 seconds.

I am trying to theorycraft an ability that would be useful in PVE fear encounters that would enable a protection specced paladin to tank using a counter ability similar to berserker rage. It is not the same thing, nor is it supposed to be, but that is the general idea.

Thanks at least to those who provided constructive feedback.

The protection tree would have to be partially redesigned. This talent would be in place of Avenger's Shield. Avenger's Shield would be moved to a different location in place of something else.
