ShoR and SoV changes to threat in 3.2?

I was just wondering what the consensus was on this?

How's threat on the PTR?

To be more specific:

1) The change to 100% BV combined w/ the doubling of BV on items? I don't wear many BV pieces, this will end up being a net loss in threat for me, yes?

2) How's SoV's damage/threat now? (Should the bonus damage be physical if it adds too much threat?)

3) Over-all threat on raid-type bosses?

Any first-hand knowledge would be greatly appreciated. ^^

Re: ShoR and SoV changes to threat in 3.2?

From what ive seen (and training dummy testing on ptr vs live server).

In my 1850 block value (39% block) block set, ShoR does a little more damage in beta.
In my 1160 block value (12.5% block) EH/Avoidance set, its significantly lower, down ~15-20%.
So it really depends on your gear, the more Block value you stack, the greater the chance that the -30% ShoR is countered by the +50% block buff. Im not good enough at theorycrafting to workout the cutover point :)

If you have a high EV/Avoidance set dont worry about the loss of dps/tp. This is nicely countered by the buff to SoV.

In my EH set a 5 stack of SoV ticks for 500 exactly every 3 seconds (on both live and PTR).
The ptr SoV has the dmg bonus of approx 300-400 extra holy damage every weapon swing (1.6sec)
This extra dmg can crit, but the crit rating seems unusually low, 1 out of 240 hits i saw from my testing. odd.
I thought it would depend on weapon crit.
(data calculated via recount)

P.S. Im really NOT likeing the exorcism nerf. Yes yes, i know our Single target taunt gets a buff, but I really miss that extra instant 'taunt'

So, bad threat spell on the GCD is "replaced" by fairly equal damage component tied into taunt which is off the GCD. Sounds like a win win to me.

Off tanking a taunt immune boss (the only time offtanking threat matters) means HoR can be a solid part of your threat rotation.

Taunting off a ranged dps who overnuked now gives significant positive threat on top of the taunt.

Heck, ret can even use it on taunt immune bosses/mobs for added dps.

I am not seeing what there is to miss here.

AFAIK, if the mob doesn't get taunted (for instance, if it's taunt-immune or is already attacking you), the additional damage is not dealt.

Yar, this is the issue. I often use exorcism on a ranged mob not in consecrate to keep it on me and not a healer in 5mans until I've dealt with the ones in melee range.
Also ASing 3, and using exorcism on the 4th..while moving ;)

Basically that you lose a pick-up tool. As others have said, right now we can hit 4 targets from a range, in addition to having 2 taunts. If we lose exorcism that's one less target (and one less pick-up in general) Being alone in Thorim's arena is hell enough as it is.

Re: ShoR and SoV changes to threat in 3.2?

I used to use a macro to pick up 2 of the cats on Auiyaya.

/cast exorcism
/targetlasttarget
/cast hand of reckoning.

Click on the two mobs you want in advance, then hit this to get them both on you instantly.

Not sure how to do this post 3.2, glyph AS?

Also, it means picking up adds on Yogg P1 will start Dr on taunt, while its quite nice to have spare taunts to use to get them to the middle if needed.

If my napkin math is correct, if more than 30% of your total BV comes from BV on gear, you should see an increase in ShoR damage.

Interesting that would suggest

(6/1.6) * (300 - 400 dmg ) = (1,125 - 1,500 dmg) vs 30% less damage from SHoR

Unless my maths is goofed ofc.

Exorcism shouldn't be part of your normal threat rotation.

Still not seeing what there is to miss.

And as a ranged pickup tool, HoR will be superior to exorcism as it will be off the GCD.

Situation most mentioned is Thorim arena solo. But if you're solo, taunt DR won't be an issue.

Before you could pick up 4 mobs in 2 GCDs. Now you can pick up 4 mobs in 1 GCD.

Now don't get me wrong, I use exorcism on live as ranged threat, but it will be nice to be able to get positive threat the second I taunt, for dragging adds to the middle on Yogg p1 for example.

Technically, this was 8 mobs in 2 GCD and will now be 7 mobs in 1 GCD.

(AS = 3
RD = 3
HoReck = 1
Exo = 1)

With positive threat on (AS) 3 and (Exo) 1 for a total of 4, in 2 GCDs. Now you get 4 mobs with positive threat in 1 GCD. Pure taunt pickups are very unreliable, without that positive threat lead, a demo shout, renew cast, dot application will pull that mob off you.

It can be a good substitute for Consecration if you're conserving mana.
