Where do tankadins shine?

I apologize if this is a repost. I'm pretty sure I've seen a thread like this elsewhere on the site --but can't for the life of me find it now.

My question is, what raid encounters are biased toward tankadins? I'm talking about situations like Prince (dual-wielding phase) or Nightbane (aoe tanking the skeletons), etc. I'm not talking about situations where we do just fine, I'm talking about situations where we actually do better than bears or warriors because of what paladin tanks bring to the table.

I'm particularly interested in the raiding game after kara, since I've already seen kara Smile. And it doesn't have to be bosses either; I know the trash waves in Hyjal are one place we excel, I'd love to hear about things like that.

The reason I'm interested is I'm in a very tank-heavy guild at the moment, and am trying to build a case for getting a geared-up, experienced tankadin or two into our ranks. It's a hard sell with well-geared warriors and bears already in the guild and having trouble getting raid spots. But I strongly feel we'll need a well-balanced tanking corps for upcoming encounters, and would love some examples to bring to the other officers.

Thanks for your responses on this. If anyone knows of a thread this has been discussed in before, a link would be appreciated.

SSC opens up as your first play house. We put out GREAT threat for a very slight hit un survivability compared to bears on hydross adds. Lurker needs a high threat cap for melee dps since his armor is comparable to paper. Leo is a fast attacking duel wielding threat fight, and who can control Morogrims Murlocs better than a pally?

Void Reaver, High Astromancer Solarian, and Alar in The Eye are all very tankadin friendly as well. Void Reaver needs the best threat output possible, Astromancer needs lots of aoe threat throw around, and alar has lots of fancy phoenixes that needs picked up.

I don't have a lot of experience past that so I'll let someone else handle the hyjal/BT Tankadin perks. Very Happy

Hi,

i suggest you take a look here:

I think this topic by now has listed all bosses where paladin tanks are ill-suited. Since you're looking for the opposit, all bosses that aren't listed here are the ones you'll have your day ini the sun Wink

There are a ton of situations where a prot pally is a huge asset to the raid over yet another prot warrior or feral druid. I would take a prot pally over a second or third prot warrior any day. You should have at least one of each tanking classes though so you can play to each one's strengths.

Here are the fights I'm familiar with:

Hydros - Paladins are the best add tanks hands down. No other tank can pick up and hold multiple adds as easily as a paladin.

Morogrim - Having a prot pally makes this fight 100x easier (having 2 makes it absolutely trivial).

Leotheras - AS (and at lower health HoW) is the best tool around for picking him up after a whirlwind. Add in fast attacks on your HS generating lots of aggro and your DPS can start much sooner which is a huge advantage for this fight.

Karathress - Paladins are probably the best for tanking the hunter and his pet. Other tanks will have a difficult time picking up the pet when it is summoned requiting a 5th tank.

Alar - I solo tank the adds. I do not think a warrior or druid would be capable of that.

Void Reaver - Paladins are awesome tanks to start the fight with. I usually hold aggro for at least the first 2/3 of the fight through several knock backs.

Solarian - Paladins are amazing for the portal phase when she summons tons of adds.

Paladins sure are a beacon in the dark... though sometimes I think Blizzard took that too literally...
