So I just hit 70 ...

So I just hit 70 on Sunday. I've been looking through the gear list on this forum to try get some decent starter gear. Mainly, I've been getting the quest items in the uncrushable list.

The good news is, I was grinding PvP over the weekend, and I got the season 1 mace w/ +199 spell.

I have one comment and one question. My comment is, it seems like as I replace "of the Champion" or Warrior gear w/ better Pally gear I lose stuff. I lose stamina and strength, and gain intellect and +spell. I know I don't need strength, but I do need the hit point. Kind of sucks.

My question is of a general nature. Does anyone have any advice for a newly 70 Pally tank?

I am going to work on the Keepers of Time legs tomorrow, I hope. Unfortunately, the armory hasn't updated my profile in like 3 days, and my gear is changing very rapidly. Sorry.

Unfortunately, the armory hasn't updated my profile in like 3 days, and my gear is changing very rapidly. Here is what my current build looks like.

Yes I have one point in Reckoning. I can't part w/ it just yet!

first thing i'd do is stack defence up to 490 as fast as possible...then work on getting your stamina up

theres no point in having a crapload of health if the boss looks at you and crits half of it away

490 Defense is definitely a good milestone to shoot for. It is a little bit more difficult than I thought it would be.

I was thinking of putting the adamantite chain on my weapon instead of +40 spell damage... basically because the weapon already has a crap load of spell damage. But that is +parry not +def

uncrittable before uncrushable, save the crushable for when you're gearing up to go raiding...so hit 490 defense, then work your way up to 102.4% avoidance with holy shield...then pull a worldi and stack stamina until you've got solid stars of elune comin out of yer arse

Hi there,

i suggest you take a look here to get some propper ideas about what gear you need/want.

Strength has little to no value to us tankadins. +12 strength is something silly as +3 more blockvalue.... <---just a fictive comparisson to illustrate it's unimportantnes Wink

Like Elennira said: get to 490 defense, which is rediculously easy without even without defense gems, get some lovely spelldamage (200 is considered a base value when starting karazhan) and pump the rest into yur stamina Smile

If you havent already done so, get yourself into Shattered Halls for the Figuirine of the Collosus. Its the single most important piece of Tanking gear a new level 70 can have. Plus get as much D3 as you can to get sorted. I would also advise buying if you havent already [I can't open your link at work] Felsteel Gloves and Helm, both are socketable and both add a lot of Defense.

Other than that, 490 defense is your aim.

Good luck!

Like what everyone before said, get to 490 Defense as fast as possible and don't forget to have Fun along the way.

First things you can easily get is both the crafted "Felsteel Helm" & Felsteel Gloves" and enchant them accordingly. They are usually on AH or easily obtainable. You can get "Bracers of the Green Fortress" crafted if someone on your server can make its a epic piece. Then i would say run BM to get TW leggings, BM is fun. The just run SV, SH, Mech, Bot, Arc to get rest of your gear drops and reps for the other faction gear pieces from CE & Shat'ar. Thats about as easy as it is.

I would probably say do a lot of tanking to practice your skills and confidence in your ability. Too many poor tanks out there at 70 with no confidence because they never practice.

Luckily, I have had practice since about 40. I know that at that level it isn't really difficult, but I've learned a few things. Like JoR works like a taunt and so does BoP, it's best to do consecration before HS, and how to properly eye out groups to pull.

What I am dealing with right now, unfortunately, are some green 70 guildies that are itchin' for heroics. I keep trying to explain to them that we still have Bot, Mec, Arc, SH, SV, and BM to run. That I would prefer to wait until I have a bit more health and 490 defense.

At this point he was going on telling me I don't know what I am talking about. Heroics are easy, if we CC more we can do it. At which point I try explain to him that pally tank mechanics are different than warriors. I am more efficient at multi-tanking (i.e. I get more mana back from heals and I generate more threat).

::sigh:: now I'm just griping. Sorry.

Anyway last night I did pick up those gloves and tonight we are supposed to do BM till I barf.

BM eh, there is a nice cloak in there which will help until you get the devilshark. Don't worry about heroics until you have at least 12k health unbuffed, even then I would start with Mechanar and Underbog as they are 'easier', but don't be 'rushed' into them.

Don't get put off if it seems you aren't getting anywhere, progress can be slow! A big step is the successful completion of the 'Breaking into the Arcatraz' quest chain.

Good Luck! and don't be afraid to ask here, you normally get a semi sensible answer!

God I must be the luckiest pally on earth this week. Got back from my vacation, dinged 68 and 69. got Myrmidon helm, righteous chest and devilshark on my first steamvault run ever, bracers of the sha'tar, i'm now at 69 sitting at 471 def, with enough gear in the bank to hit 490 the day I hit 70.

there is a whole list of gear in one of the guides floating around this site that is pretty easy to obtain.

My armory is probably showing my holy pally stats.

10531 unbuffed health 107xx unbuffed armor, 471 defense, only like 4260 mana though.

The good news is the mace alone is more spell damage than most tanks start kara with, so if your stats come up a bit short you can use consumables to raise them instead of raising spelldamage.
