Re: Defender's Code vs. Furnace Stone

The decision is easy for me, I can't afford to use avoidance trinkets at all. Maybe once i get rid of the rest of my block pieces it could work, but I am more inclined to go double stam trinkets for a boss tanking set anyway.

Sahiel wrote:To say the Defenders code is terrible is certainly undervaluing it, it's a solid damage mitigation trinket with a very powerful on use ability. Whether it's good in your gearset or not depends entirely on the boss and what other items you're using, clearly in most cases the trinkets from Ulduar will be better but i'd imagine very few people have access to them yet given we've only had a week on the bosses.

The JC trinket is way better than defender's code, but not everyone is JC (though BS/JC are the best profs for tanks).

Bolded for emphasis. I still have hopes for alchemy and engineering!

Re: Defender's Code vs. Furnace Stone

I don't see anything bolded. Lol @ Engineering. Only use I have for them are health potion injects and mana pot injectors.

Excellant input that aids the discussion.

Well done

Re: Defender's Code vs. Furnace Stone

I think blizzard wants JC and BS the tanking professions. It would be rediculous if tailoring were.

Royal Seal of King Llane. This drops from Ulduar 10. It shouldn't be SO hard to get it, and it's better than the defender's code.

Yes it would, I was hoping that we might get an even spread across professions for tanks, but we know that doesn't happen. Certain professions do suit certain classes.

I like that Royal Seal :)

Re: Defender's Code vs. Furnace Stone

The original intent of Defenders Code is that it's for a druid tank. It doesn't mean we can't use it, but we probably have better choices. Like we can wear mail, but doesn't mean we should.

Re: Defender's Code vs. Furnace Stone

Not quite the same as a tank using mail gear, more like using expertise tank gear, useful but usually subpar. Armor from other sources than static trinkets is usually preferable as you don't loose stamina.

That's right, stamina > armor.

Re: Defender's Code vs. Furnace Stone

Armor scales with health, Stam scales with armor.

60k health is worthless with 0 armor
60k armor is worthless with 0 stam

There comes a certain stam point were more armor gives more EH than more stam

2k health will let you live through 2k more damage but it still needs to be healed through. 2% more damage reduction will let you live through more damage based on your health and it will not need to be healed through. Stam is generally more EH when heals are spamming in, but in the worst case situation armor is often better EH.

One key thing to remeber stam is doing nothing if you are not toped off. If you are sitting at 75% health, 25% of your stam is "unused", at ALL health %s armor is equally valuable.

Also armor works with block to increase the effectiveness of your block value. If you reduce the size of the hit you take, you increase the % of it you can block.

Re: Defender's Code vs. Furnace Stone

Quick summary :

The trinket is "Not worth spending dkp on." At least for a tank that uses plate.

Re: Defender's Code vs. Furnace Stone

i think it's been stated before, but i'll say it again for myself. if i can break 40k health buffed w/o needing dual stam trinkets, i'll be using this one for a long time to come.
