Re: Proof God Exists

Their long term plan IS to completely rework blocking. Doubling of BV is just a temporary fix.

Yes, I realize that's what their intent is. The problem is that the temporary "fix" doesn't actually fix anything except to make progression-geared MT's ShoR hit for less.

Re: Proof God Exists

The change to our librams could very well offset that ShoR 'nerf'... depending a bit on what they are going to do to LoSS.

Re: Proof God Exists

SotR ups your block value by 130% and then adds ~560 dmg. Blizz is doubling the amt of block value you get from items other than shields (if i understood the patch notes correctly), so this should more than offset losing the extra 30% unless you dont' have block value on any of your other armor.

Most progression tanks don't stack +block gear because it is wasted itemisation (any block you stack above 102.4% avoidance just falls off the hit table, and most block value gear comes with block rating which would be wasted). Item budgets mean you don't get that block rating for free - it comes at the expense of stats that would be useful.

The only place I see stacking BV to be useful would be to mitigate enough so that you could survive consecutive hits. However, in doing so you would increase the likelihood of consecutive hits. This seems counter-productive.

And with the change to Ardent Defender coming in at the same time, I wonder if you are better off having more health if anything, using the AD mechanics to act as de-facto mitigation for the second of two consecutive hits.

QFFT, block and avoidance are inherently oppose to each other in current itemization.

Unless Blizz change the mechanizim to make them work together, no matter how they buff/nerf the BV number, it is not going to fix block, it will be always be 'too high for trash, too low for boss'.

Bear in mind the blues said it is only part of the change, let's see what's their big picture.

I bet we see a shed load of BV gear from the new raiding tier, hopefully without BR on. As it is, it doesn't help anyone because by the time BV would matter, there isn't much gear with it on and avoidance is needed anyway. It's good for lolwtf shield slams I guess.

Hmmm.

Re: Proof God Exists

So is this patch happening this Tuesday the 23rd? I dont see how anyone can say BV is wasted. If its on your classes gear, its not useless. It may not be your favorite stat, but its never useless. If 4k BV is possible, that means I could be blocking hits for up to....guesstimate 12-13k with shield block and crit block. That is a damn decent amount. And I would love to have more BR on my gear, not everyone has the ability to increase BR by 30% at all times. So that is not wasted either.

Maybe no one else cares, but if did a 10k shield slam..that would make my day right there.

Re: Proof God Exists

No the patch is not any where near out. It's part of the 3.2 content patch. Your shield slam scaling is likely to be toned down whemn the BV takes place similar to how the ShoR scaling is being lowered. Also You can't break 10k now? I hit a 12k+ one just the other day :-p

Re: Proof God Exists

Im not super geared yet man gimme a break. Im at like 1300 BV and my Shield Slams hit for 6k.

That sucks, I thought it was coming up soon. What kind of temporary fix is it if its still a ways away?

Re: Proof God Exists

It doesn't solve BV's basic issues in the least bit. It's essentially temporary because it doesn't require a rework of the combat system.

Re: Proof God Exists

I am actually wondering if it is a PvP nerf. I don't PvP, but I wonder if a bubble that reduces damage on everyone on the team while you are able to run around giving out 12k (even more with doubled BV from gear) shield slams, combined with the ability to cheat death when you are not bubbled, might be seen as OP?

I like to think the devs are not so out of touch that they thought don't understand what tanks are gearing for.

Re: Proof God Exists

It's a PVP buff if you run with high level PvE BV gear.

That's so flawed thought i really just had to point it out.
"if it's on your classes gear, it's not useless"?

So holy paladins should really love their mp5 right now before patch, even if it does give them less crit and int (so less mana-regen, throughput, and less max resources)?

Plate dps classes wanting more leath dps gear than their own would be another good example. No wonder warriors and dk's got armor=>ap talents these days.

And BV can be really, really crappy. sure, mitigation is allways nice.
But if i need to choose between reducing hit by 0,5% and adding BR that goes over-cap and is fully useless, and compare that to taking 2,5% less hits overall, i'll take that "not hit at all" option thanks.
