Maintaining Uncrittable while leveling in Northrend

Is it a worthwhile endeavor to maintain the appropriate level of defense to not be crittable while leveling? I just dinged 71 and my defense dropped to 486, making me incredibly sad. If so, where can I go to learn how much def I need at each level to be uncrittable to a mob 3 levels above me?

Don't worry about it too much.

Use resilence pieces and a resilence chest enchant if it is really bugging you.

This is something I'd be interested in finding out as well. Any information would be most appreciated!

I read somewhere on this forum that at 70 you need 490 defense and each lvl after that you need 5 more. so at 71 495 at 72 500 up to 80 at which you will need 540. A good way to stack up some extra defense rating is also to use cobalt pieces from the early northrend blasksmithing, or saronite for the mid lvl ones.

It also helps to "know your enemy", as it were.

For instance, if you're in regular Utgarde Keep, the highest level enemy you should face is level 72. This means you need 485 defense to be uncritable against these mobs, regardless of your level. If you're already level 72 yourself, then you've lost some defense skill because of the rating system, but you've gained 10 skill as part of levelling up.

"Equip: Increases defense rating by 42 (7.51 @ L80)."
you never wondered about the "at lvl xx" thing?
your avoiddance and defence rating will drop down every level, already now some tanks have like 60-70(dunno haven't checked)% pure avoiddance, its not like when they get lvl 80 Raiding gear they would get unhittable Razz
nope, the %(dodge, parry, block, crit, hit, Deffence, what ever) per rating will drop

I'm not going to worry too much about it. I figure at some point, I'll drop into crittable in the mid-70s. However, at 77/78 tempered saronite will be available, and that stuff has a huge amount of defense on it.

I do, however, have my defense gear on. The badge dodge ring is sitting in the bank and will probably get DE'd pretty shortly.

Remember back in the days before 70. did you all cap your defense when doing say... normal ramparts at 58-62?

Yeah. Welcome back to those days. You'll be fine.

It's far from "required". You'll have a nice big health pool as you pick up pieces with more stamina and gain some from leveling, and the bosses don't even hit that hard, so a few crits isn't a big deal.

If the content is something you'd consider "hard" then yes, you should be uncrittable. For most people that one come unless you're doing instances well above your level or are into heroics.

In short, you don't really need to worry about uncrit while leveling or doing non-heroics.
