Question about block cap...

wouldnt getting block capped for OTing or AoE tanking be a bad move?

My reasoning is, if you're MTing or simply tanking a boss, they dont hit you enough to use all the charges of holy shield, so yeah it's always going to be m/d/p/b. However on trash tanking (which lets be honest pallys get pigeonholed into) you might end up using the charges before the CD comes up ultimately making the concept of getting block capped inferior to just gearing normally.

Am I crazy or does any of this have any merit? Just curious.

Off tanking: You don't usually keep HS up and thus is not needed/recommend (exceptions may apply)

AoE tanking: Go far past the block cap. The more you block the less damage you take, hell go to 111% if you want.

I made a port to exodar. My friend proceeds to MD Alar onto the AFK tank, and we both run. People ran with us, until the port, and realised it was to exodar. Only three of us went through. Turns out people would rather die than go to exodar. -Infurnus

I think that this needs some clarification. When he means stack avoidance to 111.0%, he means more dodge/parry. Block Rating after 102.4% has no significant value at all because the attacks that would be blocked will be m/p/d. You do not need any additional block rating after being Block Capped. What you should stack after being Block Capped is Block Value, as this is going to increase your EH equal to how much damage you block in an encounter.

So, you can stack dodge/parry to mitigate even more damage, but blocking attacks that don't ever hit you will never happen. Therefore, once Block Capped it is of no use to stack more Block Rating.
