Tanking Sets - Questions and Discussion

As we all know in TBC us Tankadins had several types of gear for several encounters.

Block Set
Avoidance Set
Threat Set

Now that we are in WOTLK what kind of sets are you all creating? I have 3 currently


Block Set.


This set consist of high BR/BV. I tend to use this gear while Running Heroics and clearing trash in Naxx. My statistics in this gear are

20.7% - Dodge
16.3% - Parry
30.6% - Block

Avoidance Set
This set consist of high Dodge and Parry along with Max HP. My statistics in this gear are

25.8% Dodge
19% parry
15% Block


Mixed Set

If I mix my BV/BR/STR/Stam etc I come up with the following

22% Dodge
18.5% parry
26% Block

Now here are some of my questions

#1 - When I run my Avoidance macro I have more avoidance in my Block set then in my Avoidance set which is an oxymoron lol. So should I just make my block set..my main set? Or would the Avoidance set be more geared toward bosses?


#2 - Should I go with m Mixed set for everything? I have only 1% less avoidance in my Mixed then Block.

#3 - Does it even matter with the current content? Just keep getting more gear and play around more?

That's because your "avoidance" macro is counting Block as avoidance, which is isn't. Lol.

Make sure you're not stacking too much of one stat in your avoidance set, such as parry. You might be hitting DR on dodge where your block set has a better spread into defense and dodge. Also, your macro might be including Shield Block % from SBR and Defense - which isn't the point of an avoidance set.

For most things right now a mix seems best. The only fights I can think of where a specialized set is handy is trash, OT adds, and Loatheb where block value is amazing. A block value set basically -is- a threat set due to the STR/BV. Malygos 25, Sartharion with adds, and possibly Sapphiron 25 might prefer an avoidance set to reduce the chance of burst damage, but it's fairly contended (for Sartharion at least).

Ulushnar, I am just slow with a mix of A.D.D. I really can't help it. It is honestly hard for me to go through maybe a 10 page thread without losing it after the first 8-9 posts. When I start new topics I can hope the first few replies are the good ones lol. When I tank in WoW all these things disappear. I know my rotations, my gear for a certain fight. I even have stickies all over my Monitor to help remind me of important Tank facts that I have picked up reading on these forums.

And being a Tankadin the hardest aspect in my honest opinion has always been situational gear. Which is why I made this post to maybe help me decide in WOTLK what kind of gear mix I need to tank any situation. So sorry for having issues, if it is a problem I can talk to any of the admins in PM or in-game or in vent whatever works. I love these forums to death
