Emblem of Valor ring vs JC crafted ring.

All the gear lists I've looked at rank the Signet of the Impregnable Fortress over the Titanium Earthguard Ring, but I'm not sure why.

Assuming you're block capped with at least 540 defense, the crafted ring provides more stamina, mitigation, and avoidance.

With a +24 stamina gem in the Earthguard, you gain 3 stamina, 12 strength, and 34 dodge in exchange for 27 defense and some hit/expertise rating.

Is the hit/expertise really worth sacrificing some survivability? Threat is still a nonissue in nearly all encounters in the game and the JC ring has the potential to become even better once epic gems arrive.

it's an ok ring for us, but much better for a dk, and fairly decent for a warrior as the stats on it we don't value as much as other tank classes do. the only reason i'd take it over the jc ring is if for some insanely bizarre reason i'm desperate for defense and cannot seem to get defense put onto my cape/chest/shield/bracers and cba to change 1-2 gems.

Frankly, I believe the emblem ring is slightly superior, if you require the hit/expertise rating.

From a pure analysis of the two items, the crafted ring provides slightly more EH and mitigation, but the Emblem ring provides more dps/threat.

The crafted ring has 12 more str...(~26 more AP) but on a pure DPS basis, that is very close to the dps added by the 27 hit rating.

The expertise adds a bit more, but is more suited to a warrior than a paladin.

The crafted one is better, and the valor badge one is good if you need the high defense on it (obviously). The threat stats shouldn't be a bit deal.

The rankings you're looking at are mostly that poster's subjective listing and currently do not necessarily reflect what is necessarily best (though anything can be a situational best). Several listings in there are disputed by mods and players which is why there are so many pages. It's also probably why the thread isn't a sticky.

Go by what you know and feel is best.

They're pretty comparable. I'm a big fan of flattening out my threat, that is, making sure that I don't miss a couple hits and have someone grab aggro early in the fight. Total threat really isn't a big deal, since I'm so far ahead most of the time anyway. Hit (especially) stops me from having threat dips. Hit will be more valuable once we get our new taunt, since the glyph won't affect it.

Hit and expertise are practically worthless. JC > valor.

Exactly. I <3 my sand-worn band, and if I could wear two, I would. My other ring is either my ZA block-value ring (lol?) or the armor+dodge one from Gundrak. I'd wear the badge one in that spot in a jiffy. (one badge away!)

well, I personally detest expertise/hit rating. The only reason I can see using the badge ring is if you have trouble reaching defense minimum

Alright i've just found myself standing in front of the emblem vendor for about 40minutes, looking, thinking and comparing...and decided i'll rather take a look here and look if anyone has something new to say about this decision Razz

Lets sum up my situation:
I'm quite safely over def minimum, thinking if i should replace the JWC ring or not. My other ring is sand-worn, so i'm sticking with that at least 'till ulduar i guess ) But the decision whether to spend these badges or not...i assume i'd gain some little threat (im finsing myself not so good in that department since all my gear starts to be completely without BV Sad But it'd gimp my BV even further, i started raiding with like 1400 unbuffed BV, as i was gearing up, it went up to ~1800, and now it's 1127 :/ As i'm maintanking mostly 25mans lately, the BV loses a lot of its awesomeness on most bosses, so im focusing on surviving the only things that seem to get close to be killing me...well..that is swapping in some stam for malygos, and otherwise going with high stam/avoidance.

Today in malygos10, i found my threat floating in rather low departments, doing only ~20% more than DPS, and it seems to me that my threat since i started getting ilvl213 items went down by a few thousands :O

So if you were in my situatuion, would ya use EoV one, of JWC?

Well, itemization-wise, it lets you change other hit-or-expertise heavy pieces for ones that don't have them... so it allows some gear flexibility.

The JC ring is better for tanking and the valor ring is better for dpsing. I feel that there is no place in our ranking systems to add value to pure threat stats. There simply isn't a time or place in wotlk that you're going to need to stack threat stats. Would you trade 12 str, 3 stamina and 7 dodge for 21 expertise and 27 hit? Or to put another way, if you could trade in that 7 dodge for 7 str (you almost can, 8 str for 8 dodge for red hybrids) you would actually have the 9 str and 3 stamina winning the threat race against the 48 hit/expertise. The valor ring is not for us, it's for DKs and warriors, Not that we can't make use of it but it's a poorly itemized item for us.

Take the JC ring and change of of your dodge/stam gems to str/stam and you're coming out ahead.
