This buffbotting thing is silly. You're going to have a alt prot Paladin to buff Sanctuary? I suppose you'll also bring in an alt Arcane Mage to do Focus Magic, (Arcane spec sucks) an alt Warlock to do improved healthstones, (Demo sucks, and my epic min/maxing can't afford those two points in Demo) and a second alt Warlock with 1/2 Imp HS so I can get three healthstones. Oh, we'll also need an alt Priest for Imp Divine Spirit, and since deep Holy sucks right now we'll need to tag along an alt deep-Holy Paladin for Imp Wisdom. And you're going to do this before every boss attempt.

This is ridiculous. You can't just up and assume every buff that can be casted on others will always be up. If it's exclusive to a spec (things like Kings, Imp Fort, Imp MOTW are not exclusive because they're at the top of trees) you can generally assume you need that spec in the raid to buff it. So with Prot Paladins, either you use a 31.9% Protadin as a tank and ditch the Prot Warrior, a 31.5% Warrior as a tank and ditch the Prot Paladin, or you use a 30.5% Warrior as a tank and have the Prot Paladin either OTing or healing with a gimp spec.

The most likely scenario, of course, is that both classes are tanking and both classes are getting sanctuary at the same time (in a 25 man setting).

In which case it's almost always going to be a 30.5% warrior vs a 31.9% paladin.

Which seems like an analogous situation between a hybrid dpser doing less dps and providing buffs to the pure dps in the 25 man setting. But we all know that tanking is very different from DPSing in this respect. If you have a 1 tank fight, the result will be the warrior is always the superior choice to tank it. And in multi-tank fights, the warrior is almost always (barring toolbox difference) going to be the best choice to tank the 'hardest' target.

And that results in the paladin always playing second fiddle to the warrior and a perpetuation of the current pecking order. And I have to assume at its base this is what doesn't sit well with most paladin tanks.

Balancing the 10 man situation is interesting. The paladin would need to choose between sanctuary or kings, whereas the warrior would not have to choose between commanding shout and demo shout.

There are alternatives to commanding/demo, but they would come at a cost in a 10 man ranging from slightly lower to moderately lower dps.

Live, 2.4. Not in a min-max guild, just one that wants to progress.

We brought in an alt-paladin for 3rd blessing, and an alt priest for Imp DS in order to squeeze out enough DPS for our progression Brute kill. Second and 3rd kill, just the alt-paladin. Fourth onwards - 25-man, no buffbots.

Felmyst and Twins done with 25.

We're on M'uru right now, and I can see buff-bot pally returning for 3rd blessing in order to squeeze out a little more DPS & healing power.

Do you guys seriously think they shouldn't balance around buffs at all? Why do we even HAVE buffs, then? They should seriously consider having buffs drop if you zone into an instance and the buffer isn't also inside. Because this amount of botting is retarded. The logical extension of this is raids get stacked with the best tank class, the best healer class, and the 2 or 3 best DPS classes, and everyone else gets to sit outside and do nothing but buff the "real" classes.

We aren't a minmax guild really, but we have an alt priest (alt of a DPS warrior) with Divine Spirit to come in and buff before tries on M'uru and Kil'Jaeden, whilst our priets are CoH spec. I don't see why it wouldn't happen. It already happens.

Ah well I was just using that as an example without any reference to priest viability. WTB next major update!
