That hurts allot. I almost don't understand that. The last time they buffed it, then they nerfed it below what it was originally by half.
Yeah Hurts! I really was enjoying using ShotR especially on single targets. _________________ http://ardentdefender.blogspot.com/ - My WoW Blog.

I can't help but cringe at such a large blow:
ShoR:
0 base damage
100% scaling with SBV
unmitigated by armor
130% modifier from redoubt
110% modifier from one handed spec
105% modifier from meta gem
1.43 modifier from baked in salv threat
1.9 modifier from righteous fury threat
Total damage modifier 1.5
Total threat modifier 4.08
Shield slam:
794 base damage
100% scaling with sbv
mitigated by armor (average somewhere between 20% and 30%
scales with armor penetration and abilities that reduce armor
15% crit from talents
110% modifier from gag order
130% modifier from shield specialization
110% modifier from one handed spec
110% modifier indirectly from glyph of blocking (10% sbv for 10 sec after shield slam)
105% modifier from meta gem
1.43 threat modifier from baked in salv threat
1.45 threat modifier from defensive stance
90% damage modifier from defensive stance
unsure if the base threat is still part of the skill, the lvl 70 ability has 310
Total damage modifier 1.64
Total threat modifier 3.4
Warriors have a 30% chance to proc a shield slam every time they devastate.
This feels like our health gap problem. We have the potential to overtake Shield Slam's threat somwhere in the future, even acknowledging the fact that it gets 15% more cri, can get 5% crit from fury, has higher modifiers for damage, and thanks to devastate can be used up to 50% more often.
Let me illustrate:
Assume 1000 block value
ShoR does 1000 x 1.5 damage = 1500
ShoR doing 1500 damage = 6120 threat
SS does 1794 x 1.64 damage mitigated by armor (20%) = 2353
SS doing 2353 damage = 8000 threat
Due to the current lack of base damage on ShoR with the 100% SBV scaler, ShoR falls behind on both damage and threat by a large amount. This doesn't even consider the higher crit and higher usage SS gets over ShoR.
Edit: I forgot to mention that for the ten seconds that Shield Block is up, Shield Slam benefits from the 100% extra shield block value it provides. This further increases the damage/threat that SS puts out 1/4th of the time.
Update with real testing from Murmur:
Shield Slam:
Min Avg Max
Hit 1073 1333 1871
Crit 2227 2677 4020
Block value 802 with full talents
Shield of Righteousness
Min Avg Max
Hit 1139 1139 1139
Crit 2279 2279 2279
I suppose if Avenging Wrath was up
Hit 1367
Crit 2735
Block value 797 with full talents in PVP + PVE gear
Conclusion: In the current patch Shield Slam greatly outdamages Shield of Righteousness. It has a much higher potential to crit, it scales with armor reduction, has a much higher base value (ShoR has no base value), and can be used more often and costs less resources (Sword and Board procs are free).
Devastate damage took a big nerf hit though as well, now only 50% of weapon damage instead of 80%. _________________ If necessity is the mother of invention, laziness must be the father.
Kinda hard to believe that they actually use a system to decide how to buff/nerf abilities right now... I mean buff it's damage to 240% then nerf it all the way to 100%?

Im not as disappointed that the damage was nerfed, but it was mentioned that the threat was.
I dont spec prot expecting to be a damage dealing power house with massive crits (screen shot of a 12k crit?). Maybe they will do something with it similar to the mangle changes in BC. _________________ Tomase - Garona - 00/4?/??
