Does gear level matter in Proving Grounds?

I just got silver and it got kind of intense near the end when a new wave spawned while I was working on the current wave. Should I get better gear for gold or will it not matter?

If I remember correctly 615 should be the cap, being that Proving Grounds is the requirement for Heroics and that Normals drop 615.


PS. to expand on the "cap", as far as I remember, 615 is the minimum goal, as if you're below that the encounter is geared for that level, whereas if your gear goes north of that it should scale up with the gear.
