Progression Minimums

I'm trying to come up with a bare minimum requirement for different levels of progression.

For Malygos-10man, assuming you had 100% melee avoidance, what would be the bare minimum expected unbuffed health, to be an effective tank?

I realize that 100% avoidance is not possible, but it's also inconsequential, because there is substantial magical damage involved no?

Hitpoints on the tank generally isn't the problem for Malygos 10. If the pally is block capped, he's probably got enough hitpoints.

Much as I detest them, Ensidia managed it in Sunwell gear, so I'm guessing you can do it in pretty shabby gear as long as your DPS is on the ball, or your healers are pro.

i'd basically say that if your dps is running 2k+ and you can be the hateful strike tank on patch you're quite ready to do malygos. it might not be lawl easy mode but will present a decent challenge.

We've not yet attempted Malygos. I was trying to work out a timeline. We goofed off quite a bit and were slow to start raid progression, but now that it's moving, I'm trying to get an idea of what it takes.

We've cleared Nax 10 with the exception of KT (I'm never online so I can't tell you why he's not down yet.)

Patchwerk gave us a problem the first 2 runs, but now he's easy. Thaddius is pretty easy too. (Yay for DPS).

Our healers and DPS are very well geared, and generally well skilled players, but nobody has been to EoE so fight knowledge is only what we've read.

All paladins are block capped, with the lowest at about 23,000 health unbuffed.

Our warriors and DKs are substantially higher, as is our single bear.

Our lowest DPS is usually 1900-2000 range, while our highest is 2600 or so, so we do have a wide range of DPS.

For our first kill, should we take 3 healers or 2?

All of them are in full Nax(10) or better gear.

With only 2 healers, our typical Nax 10 raid-wide DPS is 13,000 or so.

I can't find a parse for 3 healers. (It's not that common).

The number of healers you take for your first try depends on their class. You need a way to heal during the vortex, only priests and druids can do it. You can get by with one healer that can heal during vortex if you have a pally judging light and a shadowpriest... but if yer melee heavy you'll probably need at least 2 real healers that can heal during vortex as they can't always hit maly during vortex.

If you have a 2 healers that are both either priests and/or druid, then run it with 2.

Three healers is probably not optimal for a kill, but the first time you see a fight there's a lot to be said for going in healer-heavy. It allows everyone to see the fight, screw up and survive it, and get some learning in.

When your three-healer group is living long enough to get murdered by the enrage timer, switch out one of the healers, haul out the consumables and go for the kill.

I recently took a mix of mains and alts to Maly 10 as everyone else was already locked out.

The setup we had was 1 tank 6 dps and 3 healers (1 Pally and 2 Shaman). Of the dps only 1 was ranged meaning a fairly slow p2 although a couple were mains and so put out up to 4k dps once on disks.

One of the healers had never seen the fight at all before and only had my quick and dirty description of what was going to happen. To my surprise we one shotted him with just the new healer dying in p1 and being BR'd for p3.

At the end of the day 3 healers isnt a massive drawback as long as you can stack 2 sparks on top of each other then open up the dps. Our tank was a raider so had about 35k health but anywhere near 30k and you should be pretty comfortable. The real trick is getting to p3 in a reasonable time with everyone alive then building the dot up as fast as possible.
