Need motivation! Why tankadin?

Title says it all: need motivation badly

why should i stay tankadin? I like to tank but looks like everything and everyone tries to stop me from that.

armory: http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Bloodfeather&n=syrgalia

First, my dps sucks HARD. when i see other ppl killing a mob, they do that generally in 10-20 sec or less, when i try to kill a mob, i need often more then 45 sec, and more then 1 min if i'm almost oom. not funny at all with all those dailies...

Second, getting gear is so damn hard. when i look at loot drops in atlas, i see alot caster gear, alot dps for rogue, hunter, even warrior or retri pally, but almost none for tank tho. (For example: i dinged 70 together with lock, and after few weeks he almost got full epic, some from kara, some from HC and some from pvp-rewards) There's rarely more then 1 good drop in an instance, and often they are no upgrade to my quest rewards. Did SL countless times just for the trinket, no luck. And when a good drop comes in kara one time, got outrolled for offspec warrior -.-

Third, so i decided to try HC for better drops and did Botanica succesfull yesterday with imba mage and imba healer priest. When i tried Mechanar and after that BF today, we didnt even reached first boss (BF quited after 2nd pull lol, died 2 times on 3 mobs) - not strong enough is the conclusion, but where the heck do i have to get gear from then??

Forth, for some reason (got +280 spellpower) i lack some tactics as rogues and locks with BoSalv can take aggro pretty easy off me. Only when i spam consecrate last rank and spam HS i can hold it good but i see here you only use consecrate once... plz tell me the trick Surprised

Last but not least, as said i can tank HC's but only with great healer, and for some reason good healers are almost non-existance on my server. My guild is pretty inactive if it matters instances, so don't have support from there, and when ppl see im not a good, well-geared tank, they leave pretty fast and thus wasted 20 gold and 60 min for nothing.

So atm im thinking of lvling that lvl 31 lock till 70, put the tankadin in a dark corner and forget about her, tho i absolutely dont want it like that.
My friends are telling me after some bad instances to holy or retri but i wanna TANK! How did you guys did this?

Thx for reading this long post (dunno if it's in the right forum section) and ANY comments are welcome Very Happy cuz me <-- frustrated

Side question: another tankadin told me Libram of Repetance (15 badges) is not good at all - my world was collapsing at that moment, how far is this true?

ok well tbh if your sick of playing a paladin then no one can/should change your mind but if you want to play a tankadin then heres some help i can provide, i am not that experienced as most of the tanks on MTadin but ill try and help as much as possible:

the 15 badge libram rules, 5% towards uncrush (other tankadin is wrong)
there will always be people trying to bring you down and say that everyone makes better tanks then you do, prove to them its wrong. thats the only way. now the reason that ur finding heroics hard is that your still in mostly blues and a green. run kara there are plenty of upgrades for you there and save badges for the 2.3 badge chest and 2.4 leggings first. your dps sucks hard becuz ur a tank, not dps (duh)so just either create a ret/high spell damage set to help grind quests/kill monsters. your hp and spell damage is low thats why you have threat problems, get the badge cest/legs which will help after you get the libram ofc.
gear upgrades i can see easily attainable for u:
exalted sheild from sso
cape and chest peice from SV normal
kara rep ring
gloves from heroic botanica
trinket from SL
the rest get from kara, join as an OT (you can go AFk most of the time then lol and get gear hopefully)
save badges for libram>chest>legs>cloak in that order i wud start with.

your armor is also low but it will increase with your upgrades.

and finally i find the most entertaining thing about being a pally tank is being the king for 5 mans, we are the best tanks for it. for example we aoe shat halls as easy as pie/cake (depending on which you like more) where as warriors and druids find it really hard. but i think the biggest challenge yet reward for playing a pally is to show other that you can do things that they thought you couldnt, i remember my first time tanking gruul even though everyone said i couldnt Very Happy

well hope this helps a bit and good luck with ur decision.

Yeah it helps, especially the gear tips Very Happy Will work on it tomorrow.
was just bit down after bad luck on drops in kara, 2 very bad runs and some nasty comments from overaggroing and thus dieing rogue & healer.

Btw isnt kara harder then HC's?

I use Consecrate as often as the situation allows. After holy shield, it's my second priority to spam. I don't think anyone here doesn't reccomend constant consecration, except in WotLK beta where:

a) You can't downrank so the mana cost is exorbiant on non-progression content.

b) We have other, more efficent skills to use in it's place.

ok then i can hold aggro fairly well if spamming is allowed ^^

was thinking about shoulders from Laj too and indeed low drop change - ah well i need rep with shat'rah anyway so just keep trying...

thx for comments, feel better now Very Happy

SPAM Concecration whenever you dont break sheep/trap/shackle/any other shit that can be broken.

In the begining you can permit yourself to sit and drink after every pull.
With the time will come the experience and the self belief when you can stop spamming just to conserve your mana and fasten the runs abit.

And dont get upset so quickly, being a tank aint easy.
You'll get much more and different frustrations at higher tanking lvls.
Wipes, ninjaloots, bosses refusing to drop something you want, ENORMOUS repair bills, ENORMOUS consummables bills... Twisted Evil

For threat generation, drop the points in imp retribution aura, and then out of imp crusader / reckoning (your pick, although I'd drop the crusader), and put 5/5 in one-handed weapon spec. As mentioned multiple time on the site, it is a common misconception that those 5% only deal with weapon damage -- that is not the case, those 5% affect all damage you do, than includes consecration, JoR, etc. Smile

Normally i'm not upset rather quickly, but being surrounded by imba ppl, being expected to be imba by them, being called noob and party disbands for not being as imba as they want and indeed leaving you with 50+ gold repair bill and 1h+ time loss for nihil gain, that maked me upset yesterday.

And about that consecrate: In HC mech, me, healer, hunter and mage are there and tell me to go. I say no cuz lock isnt there. Hunter is getting angry and he starts next pull, 3 mobs on him. I run in front of him and do consecrate + taunt. Mage do polymorph but ofc on my consecrate so no succes. Hunter tries to trap one but again on consecrate. With 3 mobs on me im dead in seconds - party wipe. "FFS NOOB why did you consecrate omfg" hunter leaves, mage leaves, lock afk... i was like WTF?

@ Carabar: thx for tips about talents - will review them now Smile

1st of all stop doing anything as soon as possible and start reading all the guides here on this side, in most sections that concern u as tank and stuff concerning how to gear up at ur gear lvl, make sure u understand everything, ask questions if not, then start getting the items u miss, and fix ur gear so it will be eassier to tank, enchant everything you have, even if it's not the best enchant cuz u can't afford it, +10 stamina LW enchant for 5-10g(on my server) works, everything no matter how small helps.

Don't group with idiots, make sure u ask ur dps about their stats, and the same with healers, pick the best if ur pugging, let the group know it might be tough if the healer is undergeared, they will know it be prepared, and if they are serious ppl they will do their best to help u. Prolly the best way to tell if DPS is good is ask them if they are hit/spell hit capped.

Since ur just starting HCs use CC, makes things easy, learn the pulls and how to handle them, if there are reasonable ppl in ur group and u dunno the strats for something ask, u never know when the help comes from and knowing when and how stuff happens gives u a big headstart.

Hunter starting the pull was your problem. Unless he's MDing to you, he needs to STFU and let you do your job. Never sweat idiots, they aren't worth your time. I would have called for everyone to run out when the hunter pulled and then kicked him from the group for being an ass.

I explain what marks mean what off the bat and that if I want cc, I'll put whatever special mark that is. You'll need to cc some at first, but eventually it won't matter unless the mob needs to die not-first and has some annoying ability like fear or MC or an AoE.

Kara is your best bet for badges, but I was able to tank SP/Bot easily with the quest blues/ BoE blues/craftables in the failsafe uncrush guide. (Granted, I wasn't pugging...) Those first fifteen badges need to go to LoR if you plan on tanking raid bosses soon. Go get the S2 mace (if you haven't) and maybe the Merc Shield Wall and s3 neck (put a defense gem in that yellow socket) if you can use it and remain uncrittable (you can always use your CE neck when you need to be uncrushable).

BF is hard. You don't wanna go there until the other heroics seem fairly easy, and then make sure you take a solid group. If a solid group can't be found, do Shat. Halls. IMO, it is more forgiving and lets pally tanks shine Smile

The SSO spell damage shield is comparable to Nightbane's, but with spell damage! A week and a half a dailies and it is yours. Put shield block rating on it until you are uncrushable without it, then slap stam on it.

Mostly though, don't be discouraged. It takes time and effort and luck to gear up. Don't let other idiots make you doubt yourself or rob you of the joy of playing your toon.

thx for comments - gonna do Kara friday with guild and see what it gives. Smile Meanwhile i'll try to get those drops in normal and doing the dailies (tho it takes me 2h+ to do all SSO dailies Sad )

For pulls im doing this atm:
- sap from rogue
- AS and run back to prevent adds from "run away in fear"
- sheep mage / MD priest / ... (in-combat cc)
- Consecrate when safe
- Judge + new seal
- HS
- spam consecrate and HS until end and judging SoC on hard enemy's + picking up any cc-breaks with taunt

Now when i got to pull 3 mobs and got a hunter in group for trap, what should i do? Pull with AS and risk hunter not getting aggro from mob or run in / use Arcane Charge (Blood elf racial) and risking 3th mob to attack healer due to no aggro at all? Had this problem alot as im very often in a group with hunters.
