Is dodge less important for a Paladin Tank??

Hello all. I've searched on the forum and not found an easy answer to my question so look forward to some sage advice please Very Happy

My guild is about to start Nax and the GM has posted a list of looting rules saying that Warriors and DKs will get priority rolls over prot paladins on any item with +dodge as "dodge is less important for paladins"

Having read a lot on this forum, I was under the impression that all mitigation is important to build on until you hit DRs, and certainly when I look at some of you better geared players, dodge is right up there as a stat. especially given that + block gear is less easy to get.

Have you any advice and figures I can use to argue my case or is he correct?

Thanks

Dodge is equally important to all tanks.

Parry is least important to DKs, since they have some parry rating from Str they will always be at a worse DR on parry than a warrior/paladin. I suppose since paladins gain more dodge from agi than warr/DK and you get Agi from GotW/Kings that a paladin will (strictly speaking) gain the least from dodge rating you COULD argue this. But the differences are so tiny its really not an issue.

If they are insisting on dodge rating isn't allowed to go to paladins, then parry rating shouldn't be allowed to go to DKs.

Although, neither is really the case and loot shouldn't be done like that!

Also, paladins gain more than +stam than any other plate tank. So paladins should get priority on all +stam loot!

The only plate tanking loot rule that makes sense, is that +block rating/block value loot shouldn't go to a DK over a warr/paladin. And pieces heavy in expertise should generally go to a warrior/DK over a paladin, since we gain very litte from it in comparison. (Conversely, pieces without expertise should go to a paladin first!)

Thank you so much for the first speedy reply. The GM has specified about block and DKs as you have said.

The GM has an incorrect view of tanking gear. Dodge is the easiest avoidance stat for a paladin to build up. If it's plate, and it's tanking gear, it's viable for all plate tanks unless it has shield block value/rating in which case it's game for paladins or warriors but not death knights.

There's my Armory for statistics for comparison in my mid-avoidance set. 371 dodge rating ~ 24.08% dodge, 268 parry rating ~ 19.33% parry. Dodge is by far the best avoidance stat to stack once you have the effective health you need.

GM has no idea what he's talking about.

Also he should let feral tanks use tanking necks with defense and dodge on them simply because they don't have better options for those slots, even if they don't gain the full benifit of it.

He's a good GM and raid leader and very fair, I just think he is misinformed on this point- I know a fair bit about the game mechanics, but really needed some backing up, so a big thanks.

Well, dodge is our best avoidance stat, and it is not right to let warriors and DKs get that gear before you Smile

Does the GM happen to play a DK or Warrior tank, by any chance? Wink

That might explain it ;)

Some of our players were under the impression that anything with parry on it was automatically a DK-item. It made me sad.

Having given it a lot more thought and looked at the loot tables, there are a lot of stats all rolled into one item for all the classes eg healers with MP5 and spirit- I seem to remember reading somewhere that Blizz have done this deliberately to make each item more useful for more classes and allow raiders to gear up more and dis less.

your GM is an idiot, leave your guild and get a GM who knows a bit more about different classes other then his own. Im assuming any shield that drops with dodge goes to the DK first? Rolling Eyes

Plate tanking gear is plate tanking gear.

Te only loot restriction that makes sense is "DKs don't get block gear if a warrior/paladin wants it"

Warrior and paladin tanks should be wearing very similar gear.
