Vigilance

Does anyone know if a cancel aura macro can be written to remove this buff?

http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=50720

we have a warrior in the vanilla wow mindset that likes to cast it on me constantly and its driving me a bit crazy.

As I understand it, it won't apply if you have Blessing of Sanctuary up on yourself.

It looks like the damage reduction buff doesn't stack but the threat transfer/taunt cooldown refresh still happens.

I don't see the point in deleting it.

I'm often asking my war OT to put vigilance on me, like this he's not too completely low in threat, and I'm taking less damage (are you sure about the reduction not stacking?)

there used to be a addon namend "freeme" which automatically removed Salv - perhaps you want to take a look at that and modify it ;)

from what i've seen every time my Warror MT puts it on me, it over writes blessing of sanc. i personally would prefer sanc over vilgilince cuz of the mana return from avoidence.

That only happens for the 10minute version of sane. Vilgilence does not overwrite greater sanc.

Your best bet is to bake it into a macro for either HotR or ShoR. I personally choose to put it on HotR along with a few other "protections" as such:

#show tooltip
/cancelaura Vigilance
/cancelaura Hand of Protection
/cancelaura Hand of Salvation
/cast Hammer of the Righteous

This way, I don't have to actively pay attention to my buffs to see if it's been cast on me and it also protects me (and the raid) from a potential wipe if someone misclicks a Salv or HoP on me. Best part is the cancelauras will work if you use the macro even if HotR is still on cooldown. And if there's ever an encounter where you intentionally want to leave Vigilance on, you can just replace your macro with HotR from your spellbook.

Re: Vigilance

I still dont see why you wouldnt want that on you, you should be gtting plenty of mana regen from being healed right? I ve found its best to put it on someone whos actualy getting hit so my taunt is never on CD. If you put it on a caster or some other dps, they will get 1 shotted if by chance taunts are on CD. How hard is it to use a different buff on yourself? You have about 4-5 to choose from. Good reason why 2 warriors tanking can be beneficial in this way, each tank uses vigilance on each other for damage reduction, make sure threat is more even, and both taunts are always useable. Its a buff man, take it for what it is and think about other people in the raid.

Focus your protective gaze on a group or raid target, reducing their damage taken by 3% and transfers 10% of the threat they cause to you. In addition, each time they are hit by an attack your Taunt cooldown is refreshed. Lasts 30 min. This effect can only be on one target at a time. <--- Thats why!

This. If it's two warriors it's slightly less bad (you still lose threat, since it's multiplicative. Providing you do about the same threat: 100*0.9*1.1=99, so you lose 1% threat), but if you do it on a tank who can't do it back on you, you're effectively stealing 10% of this threat. You're not really going to tell me that it's a good thing to have a tank do less threat, just so you can do a bit more? Only maybe if said tank is not tanking, not even meant to offtank, but is still dps'ing the boss.

Re: Vigilance

All you guys talk about is how insane your TPS is, is it really that big of a deal if 10% of it gets transfered to another tank? Its a talent warriors get, just like your BoS. Lets say you only have 1 or 2 palys in the grp. What 2 paly buffs would you want considering you have vigilance as an option from the warrior MT/OT? Are you really telling me you would want BoS over Kings, Might, Wisdom? Better yet, what if your the only pally, the only buff you want is BoS? I cant say for sure if Blizz meant Vigilance to be put on a dps class or healer or another tank, its hard to say. But I do know when whoever has it gets hit, my taunt gets refreshed, a taunt with no cooldown is awesome, so why would I use it on a class that shouldnt be getting hit in the first place? It all depends on how you look at it I guess, from your point of view all you seem to care about is your threat being transfered to someone else. From my point of view your taking less damage or the same damage you would have taken with BoS but with better stats or some other kind of buff, and my taunt will always be up and ready. In the end it all depends on the situation. If its 2 warriors tanking, vigilance is just awesome.

Re: Vigilance

If you have 2 pallies in the raid, then BoK and BoSanc go on the paladin tank. They take precedence over BoW and BoM. Vigilance gets in the way of that. If you have 1 pally in the raid, then it simply depends on the fight. BoK would probably be most often chosen for progression. In those cases you can probably put Vig on the pally with no issue, but don't be surprised if it comes off for trash or boss adds, because BoSanc is tons better for the pally there in most cases.

The loss of 10% threat will hurt on AoE and on hard mode bosses where both survivability and threat matter. In other cases, it depends on how good your tanks are and how good your dps are, as well as various fight mechanics.

In the end, simply ask. The paladin will let you know if he/she is ok with it. If they aren't, then put it on a DPS. The actual difference in threat there won't be much if you have good DPS, and if you don't have good TPS, then you don't need the extra threat anyways.

It doesn't hurt you to put it on the top DPS'er. The number of times where the taunt refresh is actually useful on a tank are very few and only really specific cases (I am not talking about scenarios where someone feels useless cause the paladin tank has 4 adds and he/she only has 1...that's more of a skill issue thing). Those are the times where you discuss it with the pally tank and work out a good compromise solution.

If I am the only paladin in the raid (happens in 10s, rarely in 25s), I take usually take Sanc over Kings. For boss fights, I'll do kings on non-trivial content (last 3 in Ulduar).

On trash, if I don't run BoSanc, my avoidance is high enough that I will run OOM without BoSanc mana returns.

2 warriors tanking is bad raid composition, in my opinion.

When I'm tanking on my warrior I Vig the highest DPS. The taunt refresh is not something I routinely use except when tanking whelps in S3D.
